Las Monedas de Necesidad del Estado de Michoacán
This booklet deals with the issues of a single state, most of which are octavos and quartos put out by municipalities and haciendas between 1825—that is, shortly after the close of the War of Independence—and 1871, just before the death of Juárez. The effort seems to have been to provide for the need of small change which was being insufficiently supplied by the governmental strikings. This study gives helpful information regarding the issuing authorities, a careful description of more than one hundred and fifty varieties, and four plates illustrating forty pieces. In addition, there is an illuminating map showing the location of many of the places named.

The Oaxaca Credit Bonds of 1915-1916
An incredibly detailed study of these Oaxaca revolutionary notes. Builds on Rosovsky’s work that made a fairly complete listing by date and series letter but mentioned only the more obvious typographic varieties. Follansbee includes some letter series discovered since 1974; distinguishes the different plates and paper used, and lists the various types according to date, denomination, series letter, portrait and position of the Treasury seal. He also gives a rough idea of the size of the various printings and identifies various inscription errors and varieties.

“Superior Galleries is proud to present the following offering of Revolutionary Coinage. The consignor has put together what is undoubtedly the finest collection of these coins ever offered for public sale. The basis of this collection was the fabulous F.C.C. Boyd holding, to which was added the A. J. Ostheimer and the Frank Roza collections. In all, more than 50 years of patient effort went into the perfection of this great numismatic treasure. Most of the coins offered here were used as the plate coins in the recently published work on Mexican Revolutionary Coinages by Hugh S. Guthrie and Merrill Bothamley.”
